DEREK NASH is back with us once more - Son of Bexley - Multi Saxophonist - Leading UK Saxophonist - Leader of Award winning Sax Appeal - co-leader of funk groove band Protect The Beat - and featured member of the Jools Holland Rythm & Blues Orchestra. Derek's a great musician and all round Showman who brings in the crowd wherever he plays. With him this evening will be :

MARTIN SHAW - One of this country's top jazz trumpet soloists in an extraordinary range of settings - from Big Band to Quartet - from Cutting Edge Jazz to Pop and Funk.
In 2001 Martin was appointed Professor of Jazz Trumpet at the Birmingham Conservertoire. He is a stunning musician at the top of his game.

DAVE NEWTON - during his Renfrewshire upbringing Dave Newton was immersed in the piano sounds of Peterson, Tatum, Garner. After establishing himself on the Scottish Jazz scene Dave met up with his old room mate from Leeds College of Music - Alan Barnes - who persuaded him to move South and the rest - as they say - is history.
Dave was voted best jazz pianist in the British Jazz Awards for the 13th time in 2014 - and in 2013 was made a Fellow of the Leeds College of Music.

The rythm section is completed by that fat-toned & thoughtful Bassist GEOFF GASCOYNE - also Composer, Arranger and Producer.

SEBASTIAAN DE KROM is quite simply one of the best drummers in the business - his knowledge of jazz is second to none - a stix man extraordinaire !

ROBIN ASPLAND is an outstandingly accomplished jazz pianist who has played with - among others - Steve Grossman, Bobby Watson, Eddie Henderson, the Dankworth Generation Band, Cleon Laine, Ronnie Scott, Pete King, Kenny Wheeler, Dave O'Higgins, Georgie Fame as well as in the film "The Talented mr Ripley".

DAVE CHAMBERLAIN on double bass - who says his principal interest is in making a clean, straight ahead blues edged sound with some modern elements. Dave is also currently involved with the Back to Basie Orchestra and 100 Years of Jazz in 99 Minutes.
It is surely music to our ears when he says "For me a musical performance is mainly about communication and entertainment"

WINSTON CLIFFORD - Drummer and (when he feels like it) scat singer is one of the greatest exponents of his instruments on the jazz scene. He plays with elegance and refinement - but can really fire up those drums whenever needed. It is a real experience to watch and hear him.

This evening ANDY CLEYNDERT presents a Quartet featuring HENRY ARMBURG JENNING - together with two new names for BEXLEY JAZZ CLUB - FRANK HARRISON AND TIM GILES - whom we warmly welcome.

ANDY CLEYNDERT - since moving to London in 1982 - has worked with the cream of UK and visiting musicians - Bobby Wellings, Don Weller, Red Rodney, Bud S hank, Lee Konitz - as well as Benny Green and drumming legend Ed Thigpen. He also toured extensively with Ronnie Scott and Stan Tracey.

HENRY ARMBURG-JENNINGS on Trumpet has a ferocious technique coupled with a true passion for jazz - which have made him one of the most sought after trumpet players in the country - and one who plays with such grace and maturity.

FRANK HARRISON - despite his young years is often almost frighteningly reminiscent of Art Tatum at the height of his powers !

TIM GILES - is one of Britain's most eclectic and creative young drummers working across a multitude of styles and genres. He has performed/recorded with Django Bates - Stan Sulzman - Iain Bellamy - Julian Arguelles and Gareth Lockrane.

GUNTHER KURMAYR - has spent many years touring the world with the Ray Gelato Giants. Tonight he leads his top notch trio on a journey through the Great American Songbook, shining new light through old windows and infusing timeless standards with a uniquely impressionistic classical style.

With Gunther this evening is MANUEL ALVAREZ on bass - of whom Richard Scarr says "...
I haven't heard a bassist whose playing has made me smile so much as Alvarez has in a long time"

RICHARD PITE is a drummer who has made a speciality of vintage drumming techniques during the early days of the 20s and 30s through to the great names of the swing era - Jo Jones, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa. Richard also plays tuba and double bass and, in his spare time, is Director of Music at Boisdale.

Before Joe died on 7th March 2014 he had asked Colin Hickman to set up this event at Bexley. It will be performed periodically in loving memory of JOE MUDELE who played Doube Bass at this Club for over 20 years.

ALAN BARNES - The multi Award Winning Alan Barnes is back with us once more with music that was radical 50 years back - hard, urban post bop - but inspired with so much passion you could believe it was minted on the spot - which is always part of the story with jazz.

With Alan this evening we are privileged to welcome Cincinnati pianist PHIL DEGREG whose main influences have been Bud Powell and Bill Evans - but Phil is equally accomplished and comfortable in a wide range of jazz styles from mainstream to bebop to Brazilian jazz. Among so many others Phil has worked with Scott Hamilton, Greg Abate, Warren Vache, Dizzy Gillespie and Rufus Reid.

On doube bass this evening will be ADAM KING aand on drums STEVE BROWN.
