    Famously the grandson of the legendary Gertrude Lawrence - Ben was born in England in '55. However, in 1980 - following lessons from Ronnie Scott - he moved to L.A. and studied with Phil Sobel. As a resident in LA, Ben has worked with such as Lionel Hampton, Cedar Watts, Jimmy Cleveland, Horace Silver and has been variously described as a 'master player' - 'sublime' - 'brilliant'.

In 2003 he was made a Fellow of the Leeds College of Music.

After establishing himself on the Scottish Jazz scene Dave met up with his old room mate from Leeds College of Music - Alan Barnes - who persuaded him to move South and the rest - as they say - is history.
    Dave was voted best jazz pianist in the British Jazz Awards for the 13th time in 2014 - and in 2013 was made a Fellow of the Leeds College of Music.
