SPIKE HEATLEY's QUARTET is yet another long awaited "first" for Bexley Jazz Club. Bass player Spike was with Vic Ash's sextet in '58 - then Jazz Couriers - Tubby Hayes - original Ronnie Scott's in Gerrard St - John Dankworth then into Session work - later playing in Barney Kessell's trio with Malcolm Mortimore. These days Spike spends most of his time in France.
ART THEMEN/saxophonist and also well known Orthopaedic Surgeon began his musical career playing with the Cambridge University Jazz Group - eventually forming a musical relationship with Stan Tracey - touring the world and playing with all of Stacey's groups.
ANDY WILLIAMS is a highly respected Jazz Guitarist - and has recorded and toured with bassist Spike Heatley.
MALCOLM MORTIMORE completes the Quartet on drums & percussion with his free, quirky, complex style - in contrast to more straightahead players.
