Ammons was one of the founders of the Chicago style of tenor saxophone playing and forged a lasting partnership with Sonny Stitt - recording some classic tenor battles in the 1950s.
In spite of two "intervals" in his career in 1969 Ammons was offered what was the largest contract ever offered at that time by Prestige.
This Project focuses on music spanning Gene Ammons' entire career from1943 to 1974.Completing the line up this evening will be LIAM DUNACHIE/Hammond - ARNIE SOMOGI/Bass and MATT HOME/Drums

However, there is also some counterpoint - a 'vibe' and concept that makes the music different from blowing through familiar standards.
