We welcome CALLUM AU to Bexley for the first time. Callum is a professional trombonist, composer, orchestrator, and arranger.
Based in London, Callum has worked with some of the UK’s top big bands and orchestras, and has fast made a name for himself as one of the UK’s finest young musicians.
Callum works as a trombonist and principal arranger at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, alongside illustrious bandleader and clarinettist Pete Long. In this post, he has worked with many of the world’s top professional jazz and commercial artists.

ALAN BARNES is a prolific international performer, composer, arranger, bandleader and touring soloist. He is best known for his work on clarinet, alto and baritone sax, where he combines a formidable virtuosity with a musical expression and collaborative spirit that have few peers. His range and brilliance have made him a “first call” for studio and live work since his precocious arrival on the scene more than thirty years ago.
Throughout his career to date Alan has accumulated over 25 British Jazz Awards and twice been nominated as the BBC Jazz Musician of the Year.
This evening is a very happy combination of front line and the superb ROB BARRON on keyboard.
DAVE GREEN will be on Double Bass and JOSH MORRISON will be on drums.

JOE MUDELE'S "BLUE ROOM SEVEN" led by COLIN HICKMAN
"Mudele's Blue Room" first opened its doors on Garrick Street on 29th November 1952 with Joe's group playing Monday, Friday and Saturday evenings - packed every evening - until eventually taken over by the owner of Studio 51. In the late '40s Joe also played in the Dankworth Seven.
Hence - before Joe died on 7th March 2014 he and Colin talked about setting up this event at Bexley to commemorate the above. Colin did so and it'll now be performed regularly in loving remembrance of JOE MUDELE who played bass at this Club for over 20 years - subsequently taking on the running and organisation of the Club 14 years ago - together with his wife, Jan Mudele - who makes certain Bexley Jazz Club remains one of the best in the country.
As always COLIN HICKMAN will lead - having made all of the Arrangements for the following superb lineup.

GREG ABATE is a man who has built a career as a powerhouse reed man and a proponent of the mainstream bebop style - earning the nickname "The Prince of Bop". He is a multi instrumentalist - equally at home on alto, tenor, soprano, baritone, flute.....think Charlie Parker, Phil Woods. From an album recorded with Phil Woods - Greg will include in his programme this evening the very lovely WILLOW WEEP FOR ME.

ANDY CLEYNDERT bring his stella quartet to Bexley for the first time.
The quartet eschews the use of drums in favour of the highly adaptive trio of piano/bass/guitar which, in this company, is no less driving whilst providing many musical permutations as each member of the group moves between soloist and accompanist. Arrangements for the group are drawn from the compositions of the jazz greats such as Billy Strayhorn, Dizzy, Herbie Hancock, Ray Brown et al, oft-neglected tunes from the standard songbook composers, and some choice songs from the pen of Tom Jobim.
